The company Stefan founded is just 5km (around 3 miles) away from where I live. I have friends who either worked or still work there. I also met a bunch of the folks at InnoQ over the years and they are a great team.

Whenever people or his employees talked about Stefan it was always in a positive way. He must have been a great guy. RIP Stefan and my condolences to the family!

I always thought he had a cracking voice, he was frequently on various podcasts and I reckon he had one of the best voices for it. Rich deep tones work well in radio and podcast.

I'm sorry to read about this, far far too young.

Oh, this is sad. I had the pleasure of meeting Stefan a few times. Always a joy, always an interesting, hostorically wellfounded perspective on the issues of the day.

I once (2012) gave a small Lisp talk at his company in Monheim (Rhine) on his invitation.

Too early gone...

I didn't know Stefan well but had some conversations on LinkedIn. Really cool dude. He had a lot of influence in the API ecosystem with presentations on REST, Hypermedia and such. rip

Devastating.

Ever since I met him as a young developer, when he was speaking at a local user group, I made it a point to catch any talk he gave at any conference I was at. He was one of the few people who combine huge competence and deep experience with being able to speak and communicate them really well.

Plus, he always came across as someone who was utterly professional, yet manages to stay human, accessible and deeply committed to their values - the kind of person I aspire to be.

Feel sorry for him. I like listening to his speeches. He made a lot of points other presenters could not make. I remember a his word in a presentation, "if a solution brings it's own IDE, something must be terribly wrong.".

Stefan was a kind and generous man and I’m sure many of us in the industry have many fond memories of him. For me personally, it’s working together on InfoQ editorial duties when it was in its early years. RIP Stefan!!!
