A similar thing happened in my community (not historically prone to wildfire) on December 30, 2021. 1000 homes destroyed. Fortunately far fewer casualties. Similar proximate causes (100+ mph winds and historically dry vegetation). I remember some outlets making a big deal about the possibility of this becoming a new normal due to climate change.
