Have any of you had experiences with worker co-ops in the tech sector?

How/did you get investment? What was the decision structure like?

I've noticed the trend in tech co-ops I can find is that they lean towards agency work, rather than a specific product. Is that due to needing upfront investment for a product and less so for providing development services?
