I’ll be interested how they will implement the interactions framework with hands and eye gaze at that price point. Meta’s hand / eye interaction stack is not great after several years. Apple’s one looks ok, to be tested. Better market it as a dumb screen and focus on visual clarity. A large 2D surface would go a long way in the market if done properly.

Is anyone aware of a "spatial computing" approach that is more original than floating rectangles?

I made this video to show one way how multiple spatial programs look. It's sorta like VR today is early 1982-era computing where we can only open a single 3D terminal and we can't do 3D multi-programming yet.

VR compositors are much more complicated then 2D rectangle compositors. I hope someone invents and releases a good performant general technique like frame reprojection systems.

Right now that is what it is because apps aren't ready for full 3D environments. Once this takes off it could open the door for that.

I wonder how they can manage all this tech for that price. 4K displays, flat design, eye tracking, excellent passthrough for 750$?

It's too pricey for me to preorder, yet it seems a lot price for all that expensive tech. I wonder how they'll manage that.

The product was actually announced some weeks ago - the pre-orders are now available to book.

For $500 you get a resolution of 2.5K per eye. People who've used HMDs to mirror their desktop GUIs, is that enough for all-day "professional" work?
[+] wkat4242|2 years ago|reply
No it's not. It's only a bit above a quest's resolution. It won't be enough unless you increase font size. 4k would be close though to get decent 1080p screens (remember those 4k pixels are spread out over a big field of view)

> You'd need to order the magnetic lens inserts for your prescription. To achieve a sleek fit, glasses cannot fit under Visor.

Same deal with Apple's, currently.

holy hell I hate that website so much I might not give them my money sheerly from that; what user hatred they have for me. It's not just the "scroll to have things swoosh in" that I guess makes me not a cool kid, but the idea that I'm going to click on a thousand plus signs to read a goddamn faq is just ... who is the audience for that shit? someone with only one question? damn

my trickery of `document.querySelectorAll('.c-faq-icon').forEach(it => it.click())` didn't work because it collapses the other elements when it expands one but thankfully `document.querySelectorAll('.c-faq-a').forEach(it => it.setAttribute('style', ''))` does

The copy was also annoying. Any time you find yourself using the term “value proposition” in customer-facing materials you’re going in the wrong direction…
