Yes. Fossicking is also more generally used for searching for gold or gems as a hobby. I live in Australia currently so there are lots of places I can go to. I personally prefer to use a metal detector and dig with a small pickaxe and hand shovel.

Any cool or valuable finds? How did you get into this? I live in the Canadian Rockies and there seem to be people that pan for gold in rivers but I’ve never met anyone who does it as a hobby or knows of anyone that’s actually found anything. Seemed to me that fishing in the same rivers would be as enjoyable/calming and a greater yield.
