1. The community does most of the moderation. I'd counter Drew by asking him to find a better self-moderated online community. Dang only steps in when the community overreacts, in either direction.
2. @dang is one of the best mods out there, I've emailed with him many times, as both the good guy and the bad guy. Tell me another platform where you get a real human response about why you get temp banned or rate limited.
3. I do not see a problem with hate speech on HN. Those get flagged pretty quickly.
4. I've seen as many or more conservative voices "censored" than liberal
5. What he thinks of as censoring topics based on politics is more likely HN wanting to filter certain topics because we are tired of the same old arguments.
> From the Guidelines: Off-Topic: Most stories about politics, or crime, or sports, or celebrities, unless they're evidence of some interesting new phenomenon. Videos of pratfalls or disasters, or cute animal pictures. If they'd cover it on TV news, it's probably off-topic.

Anyone know why Drew is on a witch hunt?
Reading his replies on that post, I'd prefer he not hang out around here
I don't understand what's this about actually. You can't just go around accusing people of being rapists without evidence. And if there's evidence, go to the police. What's so special about the hacker community to especially have "problems" in this area?
Also, he quotes some US studies about 1% of rapist being convicted IN THE US and then argues about some even in Berlin. Justice system isn't the same worldwide and I guess its effectiveness would vary.
Such presupposed accusations are very bad for the community as a whole. And sometimes, even after a court verdict, they are still false, viz the tragically comic trial of card. George Pell (https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2019/feb/26/rise-...).

Posts that admit to unpopular forms of hate get downvoted to oblivion.
Posts that admit to popular forms of hate are fine in general.
Disruptive hate is disruptive and moderated like any other disruption.
