My 16 year old son is autistic and mostly nonverbal. He has been making some great progress on this app lately: https://speakforyourself.org/
That being said, as a parent you really have to work with him on it. It isn't easy to build it into his daily routine. It also helps to have his teachers on board with it. That is why I think he has improved on so much recently.
It is also very expensive at $300 but, in terms of making a difference to his life, it is well worth it.
