Acquired a tinnitus during my time working in an open-office spanning three floors with a waterfall in the center of it. So, I was quite motivated to look into the details. Oddly enough, while working for a leading hearing aid provider... for many it's a clicking, buzzing, hissing, or roaring. Not only a ringing at a specific set of frequencies.
To add to the solution provided above, listening to brown noise or drone helps me with a 'hissing' tinnitus.
