For what it's worth, the only state in the United States which agrees with your philosophy is Texas. Every other state requires an imminent threat of death or grave bodily harm to justify the use of lethal force. (And honestly, Texas only holds that position because of its huge size and ranching background, where cattle rustling stood a major risk to the state's economy.)
