Gee... I wonder what Apple might fix next in this cat + mouse game...

I believe this also applies to plain Beeper Cloud according to the Beeper Updates channel inside the app. Been a user since May of this year and it was working beautifully. RIP, end of an era. I just sold all of my Macs recently and don't think I'll acquire a Mac just for this reason :(

“A Mac“ most likely includes macOS running under virtualization or on a Hackintosh as well, for now. (Apple’s historically been extremely lenient about these off-label uses of macOS, but the fine folks at Beeper will probably destroy this for us as well.)

Beeper Cloud used to use cloud hosted Macs. Maybe they'll go back to that again.

Next requirement will be buying an iPhone. Oh well..

Personally I feel it’s a simple price to pay if you must have the “blue” bubble or be in such a circle that doesn’t move to a cross platform app ;-)

As someone who has been fully on fruit company devices for more than a decade, both professionally and personally and never used iMessage - never had to or wanted to, this whole circus looks absolutely ridiculous.

I just wish iPhone would support RCS and we can finally have features that IM supported back in 2000

> Beeper CEO Eric Migicovsky [...] spoke out against Apple's iMessage monopoly

I hope he will also speak out against Signal's Signal Monopoly, and Facebooks Whatsapp monopoly

zamadatix|2 years ago

Signal hasn't blocked Beeper throughout the years nor has it limited people not in Signal's hardware ecosystem from joining nor does it have nearly as much market penetration. WhatsApp even did get regulated recently via the DMA. There are plenty of arguments against Beeper's stance on iMessage but "there are other chat apps which exist too and maybe they do maybe they don't have same problems" isn't a particularly strong one.

If they had money or good representation, they would file an antitrust suit.

And Beeper would lose. This isn’t antitrust.

such a bizarre world Apple lives in

> such a bizarre world Apple lives in

A world so bizarre that people keep trying so very hard to access it on their own terms.
