Looking to sell my ramen profitble SaaS side business

25 points| mrhesham | 2 years ago

Hello,

Beginning 2022 I have launched postoptions.app which is a close to realtime US option screener as a side business.

Since then, the service had several paying users reaching 864$ in net revenue.

The business is 100% passive. I had many users requesting new features but I don't have time anymore.

I'm looking to sell it even for a low exit price. It is not incorporated and it uses Stripe as payment processor (verifiable).

Where can I find people willing to buy?

I've been looking for ways to invest my (meager) extra cash to generate passive income, however your app is a wee bit outside of my wheelhouse.

That said, I'm probably not the only HN user who would like a small, profitable project. Can you tell us more about the backend, user expectations and what your target price would be?

Here is a compilation of some questions I got:

What is the backend written in? .Net Core (C#) + SqlServer + Laravel (Frontend) - Running on a Linux Hetzner instance

What Hetzner location are you using? Ashburn US

Is the data from Tradier real-time? Are there any limitations to the data? Yes RealTime, the only limitation is the rate limited to 120 api calls per minute

What are the features updates that have been requested? The features requested are mainly adding more filtering properties and adding new complex option strategies to the screener

What's the agreement with tradier? Why are they providing data for free, can they start charging you if you get bigger? Tradier is offering their market data and trading API for free for established platforms, see here https://tradier.com/platforms Their goal is to create an ecosystem of third party vendors.I can easily add the feature to trade options on Tradier.com from within postoptions.app. If I do that Tradier will make money and I make commissions. This is the essence of the agreement.

How many of your users are friends and family? Zero

Who's your main competitor and why are you differentiated? My main competitor will be https://optionsamurai.com/, my product offers realtime screening, theirs has a delay of several minutes. But overall my product has fewer strategies

Sounds like maybe you have 4 users, based on your pricing ($15 per month each). Pretty cool! The jump from 0 to nonzero users to multiple users is huge, really impressive.

The question is how do you think you got those users? What drew them in? Do you have any ideas for expanding? "many users requesting new features" -- is that one of the 4 existing customers or someone else?

This got me interested, how is it different from barchart? I used their free options screener, but it had limitations.

psikomanjak|2 years ago

Hi I might be interested. How can I contact you? My email is on my profile.

How much do you pay for data?

mrhesham|2 years ago

Data is free from Tradier.com, I have signed an agreement with them.

Maybe Flippa.com?

mrhesham|2 years ago

They didn't accept it. The revenue is too small.
