Just got algo'd a YouTube video of someone on a similar rail car cruising along an abandoned section of track in SoCal.

My first thought was: tow a couple more of those cars but with solar and LiPO batteries and you can travel all day.

(I know too of people that "rail bike". That looks like a blast.)

Me too! Looks like a lot of fun. I wonder what a typical cost is. Love the idea of Solar with LiPO batteries!

In the railroading business, the little cars that run on the tracks are called speeders.

Very cool insight! Do you work with Railroads professionally? I'm surprised there isn't more available about this. It looks like a really fun hobby.

When I read (elsewhere) that train wheels are actually not cylindrical but conical to allow them to self-adjust on turns, it kinda blew my mind. Now I'm staring at the wheel flanges, feeling like a big brain.

With a hinged design, it could fold up into a briefcase-sized package for easy carrying.

Love it, thought of making something similar once just to travel downtown Toronto using the streetcar tracks, especially late at night with infrequent service.

Most city subway systems can similarly be utilized when closed (or off-peak) if you know your timings.
