Tell HN: Browser domain name should be a bigger font

8 points| tilwidnk | 2 years ago

For all browsers, as the world's population ages, browser Devs, please make the domain name default font size one or two points larger so it's easier to be sure we're at the actual site we want to be at.

No. What are you going ask for next? Perhaps making the path grey? Hiding everything but the domain name? I disable those features when I can and it was criminal that browsers ever thought they should make any part of the url lesser.

Firefox used to have an extension to make the address bar bigger, but it's now defunct. It was located here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/make-address-...

I used to love that addon, but I learned to pay attention to the small text now, without this addon. There are probably ways to make it bigger by messing with the browser's 'chrome'.

I disagree. I would rather use a uniform and fixpitch font (and a single colour) for the entire URL, and to force it to display the entire URL as ASCII. The only part which should be hidden is the password.

(Being able to change the settings might be helpful, so that you can configure the fonts, character sets, etc; and perhaps even the setting to display the password if you want it to do.)

Old people use Google to type things in, how many times have you attempted to troubleshoot an elders internet problem by saying go to the address bar, they have no clue.
