Not that I know, but it would be interesting to have a study of water usage for golf courses. I suspect it's mostly minimal impact, even if it's also superfluous use.

I'm guessing it's mostly a emotional reaction, which is 100% understandable. A bit like someone peeing on you while you enter the ocean to swim. I mean yes, I can just wash it off, but it is a tad disrespectful I'd say.
