I'm unaware that the representatives of the United States of America have ever given any explicit authorization for a military expedition or fortification in Syria, though the executive branch has clearly given the orders.

My condolences go out to these soldiers and their families but not the civilian command that ordered them abroad without any clear declaration of war. As a citizen of the USA, we have no control over our military, nor our politicians, and I can't support most of the current actions supported by our elected officials and I am insulted at the deployments that are neither approved properly and put our servicemen at risk.
