I always personally thought the principal source of microplastics was polyester (polyethylene terephthalate). I most often see it linked to plastic bags and containers instead. I'm half way to replacing all my clothes with organic fibres - seeing the mass of polyester in my dryers filter every week was starting to spook me out and the airborne 'dust' blowing off it when removed reminded me of asbestos.

Don't forget the carpeting in houses and offices as well.
