You're being naive. Cybercrime and ransoms happened before cryptocurrency was a thing. Criminals do real life criminal things, and that goes especially for intelligence agencies, mobsters and ransomware agencies. If they couldn't sell it for crypto, this data would end up in the hands of such people. Sounds like someone trying to make an argument for shutting down the future of finance, which is far less criminal than the existing system of finance, on the basis of "cybercrimes occur"
