Show HN: I made a tool to Find your Startup Name in Seconds.

7 points| HuguesStaz | 1 year ago |findna.me

Hey everyone, today marks the launch of my first project called FindName.

It helps you nail down a name for your project or startup in seconds.

Just input 2 words and your project description, and you're set.

Feel free to drop me feedback and upvote if you dig FindName.

It's a nice idea. Perhaps you could make it come up with more creative or catchy names?

Right now I only see it merging the two words in one way or the other.

Thanks for the input! It's just V1, focusing on the simplicity and universal appeal of combining two words for easy startup names, aiming for higher conversion rates. Plus, I used the app to come up with FindName. We're exploring more creative combinations for the future!

Tried it with "edible insects". Not sure I will go with RoachFood. Otherwise it seems as said elsewhere here the the two words do dominate, with alternatives which honestly could be got from a thesaurus. Maybe it needs better prompts.

Thanks for the feedback! The core idea is to pair two words to create a simple and understandable name. As it's a free tool, you can iterate to find a different variant. I'm looking into improving the prompts for better results in the future.

As others said, it just merges the words you add, I had some high hopes as finding catchy names is a task by itself.

Thanks for the feedback! Exactly, the goal of matching two words together for a brand name is to help people not dwell too long on this step, enabling them to move forward and ship faster. Your input is greatly appreciated as I continue to refine the process!

My first thought: quality above quantity. Meaning I do not mind waiting a few minutes for a really good name.

I understand your point and it's because I'm using GPT-3.5, as it's a free tool. However, I'll ensure to work on improving the system to meet the quality expectations.

How does this work under the hood? Does it wrap gpt-3.5-turbo? What are the numbers after each suggested name and where do they come from? Repeating identical inputs produce slightly different outputs, for what it's worth.

Its use case reminds me of the whimsical "Entendrepreneur" project featured at a NeurIPS 2018 workshop: https://www.punchlinedesign.net/pun_generator/

Yes, I use GPT-3.5, and the numbers represent a score out of 10, considering how short, understandable, and reflective of the user's needs the brand name is. The variation in outputs for the same inputs is due to the AI's generative nature, producing slightly different results each time. As for specific projects like "Entendrepreneur", I'm not familiar with them directly, but it sounds like a fascinating reference!

Awesome launch! Any details about how you build it?

Tried: Swimming Workout

We help you plan the perfect workout, using AI vision to improve your form

Results:

AIFormPerf

PerfectAIForm

FormVision360 (and more)

I don't love any of these. None of them mention swimming, water, laps, etc. So they could equally apply to an app for running or weight lifting. But still, awesome for an instant name.

Don't hesitate to iterate to find the name that suits you best. Thanks for the feedback! I'm working on improvements to ensure more relevant and specific suggestions for future iterations.
