If I had a dollar for every "friendly" dog that jumped or lunged at me or my wife while running or cycling even when leashed where the owner was shocked (shocked!) at pooch's behavior, I'd have a decent sum. Nowhere near enough to live in Park City though. :-) So hard to tell from this he said/she said account who is in the wrong. Definitely a slow news day.

Same. Unleashed dogs have charged me while walking. They've blocked my path while hiking, barking and snarling. They've chased me while cycling, literally snapping at my heels.

I don't understand people who think dogs are harmless.

I do think aggressive, menacing behavior from dogs should be treated as seriously as similar human behavior would be.

I’ve been bitten twice by leashed dogs. On the sidewalk. The owners were flabbergasted. Seriously, just blows my mind how terrible so many owners are.

Edit: neither time did I engage or pay attention to either dog.

Not sure why this is an interesting story for HN, as it seems like a dispute between neighbors. And it seems like a worthwhile lawsuit because in most places, even on trails, you can’t have pets roaming freely off leash. This has been getting more common though. I’ve noticed an increase in off leash dogs near me and find that dog owners are increasingly entitled about it, always claiming their dogs are friendly when they run up to us. Sorry I won’t blindly trust in your dogs’ training and don’t want my children maimed in your experiment with going off leash illegally.

You're in favor of letting dogs roam the neighborhood without leashes?
