What schools have impressed you?

2 points| ridgehawk99 | 1 year ago

I have a teen son thinking about college soon. I've been around alot of smart people, great developers, terrible developers. What school (proxied via people who you worked with) has impressed you the most?

for me, it seems MIT has the most competent engineers. Harvard/yale talks more than works. Haven't really seen many from Princeton out in the world. Stanford doesn't last, always leaving to go do something else.

no stories. just names. also if your going to complain about a simple answer, go do it in the bathroom looking at the mirror.

Georgia Tech seems to be the new MIT, as MIT degrades into a cesspool of fraud and corruption. It's like the MIT in its heyday.

I'll also mention: As the above comment implies, schools change over time. Reputations follow decades later.

Honestly, I've never noticed any significant difference in the quality of engineers depending on what school they went to.

Different schools have different cultural reputations, though, and those could conceivably make a difference in terms of hiring decisions. I suspect the difference is minimal overall, but probably significant with certain companies.
