I am worried too. But not as much for the AI itself, but the hoards of brainless humans (including quite a number in positions of at least some power) who are being seduced by the idea of AI without a hint of critical thought.
I hate how quickly people are willing to give up thinking once a new magic tool comes along.
Even without AI, I’ll write a basic script to automate a task, and people will assume it’s magic. They’ll feed it complete garbage in, then wonder why it doesn’t work. They will also instantly forget how to do the task manually, after having done it manually for years prior. Within 2 days they forget everything and are fully dependent on their new tool. It’s terrifying.
