Did he give his own personal money? Or is it company budget?

Its OpenResearch's budget but OpenResearch is largely funded by Altmans personal donations.

> “Universal basic income” was one of the first concepts probed by OpenResearch, a moonshots lab linked to OpenAI that Altman has personally contributed tens of millions of dollars to in a crusade to shape a future he sees as inevitably disrupted by artificial intelligence.

Well what's stopping you? According to the book The Most Fun I Never Want To Have Again: A Mid-Life Crisis in Community Banking, it is not that hard to get a bank off the ground. I would have expected that it would take millions, but it was less than that. Basically, you have to put in about $100k and find some other people to also do that. Next, you go with some official documents to the government and ask for permission to commence business.

Should be possible for anyone in about 2-10 years if you *really* want it.

superkuh is right, and this is the most misunderstood concept as it relates to general liberty.

If you think you're being compensated for your time, just remember, that they believe, over the course of time, your time is worth nothing.

Edit: To clarify - because your currency is worth nothing over time.
