I thought the announcement was that features would be rolling out in 2025 and that a beta would be available in 2024?

Was it always going to fully launch with the iOS 18 launch not in beta?

Going back it does seem like there is some kind of delay if the beta of Apple Intelligence is not launching this year.

It was supposed to arrive in iOS 18 to some degree. Probably the image gen and some of the simpler text stuff like summarising text.

Now the rumors are saying that Apple won’t launch anything until iOS 18.1.

No, just news for people who don't follow all the details/keynotes. Also keeps people clicking on Bloomberg/HN/othersites, as any Apple news do.

> later than anticipated.

No, this is when they said it would be arriving.

The most frustrating part of iOS today, for me, is the voice recognition in iMessage. It feels like something from a decade ago. I hope they use a real LLM to improve accuracy. According to reports they will use an on-device large language model. Can a good-enough LLM run on the phone?

And probably 3+ years from it being available in the EU

Apple can keep it until it's safe to use. I kind of feel bad for folks in the US getting this unleashed on them. Hope it's still opt-in and doesn't force you to use it.
