I think that watching two weeks of AI commercials due to the Olympics has something to do with it.
Every single commercial was terrible. With the possible exception of the Salesforce ones, which were clearly intended to be "bad" and to put negative thoughts into your head when you saw some other AI commercial.
Plenty of negative press covered the "Dear AI, help me spam a famous athlete" commercial. But what about all the rest? "Dear AI, please give me the top search result from Old Google, except take longer and use more electricity"
"Hey AI, what color shirt should I wear if I get a gold medal? A blue shirt, that's perfect! Every single other American is wearing a blue shirt when they get a gold medal; I certainly would have messed it up. What would I do without an AI???"

Supposedly logic-minded technical people never seem to get enough of it. They embrace it over and over again.
OOP, blockchain, metaverse, AI are just a few examples.
