Gosh I hated the characters but it does bring up a good point that I think applies to most art of the twentieth century and beyond: it’s too close; there’s too much; that which will stand the test of time yet stands obscure among that which will be forgotten. I don’t think it’s the education system’s fault, however, but it depends on what you believe the purpose of the education system to be. If it’s supposed to turn us into hungry little consumers of entertainment, then perhaps school is indeed failing us by not getting us into a wide enough array of books.
