And this is how Grok will out compete other image generation services, unless they adapt of course.

Is that how business works?

Let’s pretend you’re a paying customer of image generation AI. Are the guardrails that prevent you from making images of 9/11 the thing that is your biggest pain point?

I think the biggest pain point or “feature request” for an AI image generation customer would be to be able to generate more accurate, higher quality, “better” images.

We are talking about someone who is willing to pay enough money to make AI a profitable product rather than an exercise in selling $5 of compute cycles for $1.

Of course, there are plenty of porn-oriented AI image generators that serve the particular market interested in fewer guardrails and they do benefit from having that particular form of censorship removed.

But really, other than that, what is the business case of “it’s just like DALE-E but not quite as good, but on the plus side there are fewer guardrails so I can make edgy content?”

To me that’s just describing a product that is worse. Like, great, you made some 13 year old boys with no money dicking around with your compute happy. That’s not a viable business.
