I feel depressed every time I read posts about finding tech jobs on subreddits

Are you currently looking for a new position? Reddit is not reality, there are jobs open. It may be more difficult now than previous years but its still possible. In my own circle I know of three people, including myself, who have new SDE jobs within the last year.

If I spent too much time on Reddit it fucks with my mind as well. Take some time off social media and take care of yourself.

This. Whenever i dive into Reddit i feel shocked about what a terrible world people are living in, every aspect of their lives. Sometimes it makes sense to close that tab of doom and look out of the window and see people living normal lives.

Also, stay away from Team Blind. It is worse than reddit for toxic comments.

When unemployment was at all time lows, I saw people on Reddit complaining that they couldn’t find a job and applied to 500 places.

I have to think it’s a personal issue with some of these people. Either their standards are too high, or they have a major flaw preventing them from getting hired, which they leave out of the post (or can’t see themselves). They are also likely applying without even reading the job descriptions… spray and pray is going to get a lot of ignored and rejected applications… as it should.

Reddit is not a good place if you’re depressed, or prone to it. It’s full of other depressed people and they feed on each other and validate each other, and it creates a downward spiral that’s hard to get out of. It is probably in your best interest to find other ways to fill your time.

I watched some people like this on youtube as well. Many of them do spray and pray and very little prep (leetcode, certifications, courses, open source, networking, CV tweaking). They blame everyone but themselves, many have mental issues and often require help.

Stay positive and focus on important stuff.
