Observational study supports century-old theory that challenges the Big Bang

Hubble observed less than 30 galaxies. I could never understand how they concluded that the _whole universe_ was expanding by observing a mere 30 galaxies. It doesn't make sense in terms of statistics. The sample is too small, more importantly, the population is unknown.
