Just wanted link this story here about OpenAI removing non-profit control and giving Sam Altman equity [1]. I think that's actually the more interesting news about OpenAI today, and seems to have been lost amidst the drama of Mira leaving. And also seems quite possible that this could be the reason for Mira leaving.

Reminds me a lot of the aphorism "Poor people worry about income. Middle class people, about assets. Rich people, about control." If you have board control over an organization that's desired by a lot of people, you have an awful lot of leverage to mint assets where none existed before.

> “When Mira informed me this morning that she was leaving, I was saddened but of course support her decision.”

How does it matter at this point whether or not you support her decision. She left.

Employee of Sam's or not, you wouldn't like it if you ever lost Sam's "support" :)

So, serious question: if OpenAI is "a few thousand days from AGI" and about to dominate the GenAI space, why can they not hold on to execs? why is there no amount of options/money they can use to retain them with?

When did Altman learn how to use uppercase characters?

The Microsoft stake finally allowed him to let loose and buy a keyboard with a working shift key.
