Not all ancient megastructures were as ego-driven as the examples here. Many structures were purely religious in nature. Machu Picchu in Peru is widely regarded as primarily a civil engineering effort. The main problem is we cannot figure out how they worked with granite. We have vague ideas about how granite was moved, but not in situations where it was moved extremely long distances. Even moreso, we struggle to understand how the ancients cut granite so precisely.
