What are use cases for such long cables?

Removing anything that is making unwanted noise far away from the desk is one thing that comes to mind immediately.

Imagine your periphery like keyboard, mouse, whatever attached to some dock/hub, or using that of your main-screen, and that long cable going into another room from there/that hub/dock, where the noise/heat doesn't disturb anyone.

In olden times one could do that (among other things, not their main use-case) with so called 'KVM-switches', which are special and expensive equipment.

Except for that active optical cable, with current hardware this is no speciality anymore.
