A key part for me is the platinum and lignin and I'm only interested in the same way I might be interested in an article including 'gold and palladium ...' Which is to say, with morbid curiosity as to both the cost and toxicity of the idea, and a little bit of surprise that safety and efficiency would be included as reasons to pursue this research.

Lignin is a notorious unwanted substance (from making paper for instance) that you could make a fortune of if you could make something wanted out of it. People have tried so many bad ideas to be rid of it, such as GMO trees that don't contain lignin -- doesn't work because they get shredded mercilessly by bugs.
