Why should I buy a car that guzzles fuel like an oil well and performs like a garden mower when I can have a European or Japanese car that consumes much less, is more advanced in engineering, and with a smaller engine delivers better performance than any muscle car?

They are way too big for Europe. And the quality of American cars is nothing to write about. It’s like asking why do America not buy fiats.

Always look at insurance companies lists to see the build quality.

Which cars will break down quickly and which one’s wont?

Marketing is hell of a drug, but the truth is out there when incentives align.

For the past 30 years, cars have been "good enough". This idea that one manufacturer is "vastly" better than another is nonsense. All care manufacturers are vastly better today than they were in the 1980's. This is largely due to regulations. When left to their own devices, auto manufacturers put bigger fins on cars to outsell each other; but under the pressure of government regulations we literally get safe, more efficient cars. But to claim EU should import US because they are somehow "better" is laughable from a technology perspective. US auto manufacturers are just adding bells and whistles (keyfobs? use a fucking KEY. giant touchscreens replacing consoles? NOBODY likes or wants them).

size, cost, culture of buying older vehicles. Those are just a few and as sporkydistance mentioned existing vehicles are good enough. My vehicle is ULEZ compliant and is from 2006, I will have this car until it hits 150-200k. That will have been majority of my driving career.

Also if you plan on owning a car for a long time, you start thinking more about maintenance and repair. Imported car parts are harder to get than domestic.

Unlike other American brands, Europeans were for a time quite willing to buy a certain brand of electric vehicles until CEO & POTUS Elon Musk decided to go the way of a certain 1930s German dictator that brings bad memories to Europeans.
