Every society regulates speech. There is no society that allows everyone free speech in the absolute sense of the word. If another society regulates speech differently than yours then you can always accuse it of violating free speech. There was nothing epic or historic in what Vance said. Germany regulates speech differently than the U.S. That doesn’t make German society less free or less “democratic”.
