I looked at the first 30 votes on this submission. The median age of the accounts that voted is 9 years, and the median karma is 3243. Those aren't bots, and I didn't see any evidence of a voting ring.

It's extremely easy to perceive sinisterness and jump to nefarious conclusions about things like this—in fact it's the internet's favorite sport. That's why HN's guidelines specifically ask people not to post like this in the threads.
