I am completely against killing people without due process, as he did, and bragged about. But it does seem that most people in the Philippines were happy with his policies, and his policies do appear to be "effective" wrt murder, though are extrajudicial killings by police any better? I don't think so

Not to totally dismiss that Duterte was popular, because he had the same kind of fanatical support Trump does, but from the PUBLiCUS Asia site they are "Philippines’ first & only registered Lobbying & Campaigns Management firm.".

Also note that his term was 2016-2022 and from 2017-2019 the Philippines was under martial law[1] and 2020-2022 (Covid time) everyone was on another mandatory lockdown[2]. In addition to this, crime was already dropping before his term, and his statistics are dubious[3]
