But does the process of institutionalizing those teachings not go against those exact teachings themselves? At least for Christianity?
The point of the Grand Inquisitor chapter revolves around a fictional situation where Jesus returned to Earth during the inquisition, and posits the idea that Jesus was exactly the type of individual that the church would have been willing to purge during that time, criticizing the institution and the free will that is exchanged for structure and institution.
