The original version was the four (SMB1,2,3 and Super Mario Bros. USA aka the western SMB2) 8-bit Super Mario games ported to the 16-bit Super Famicom. New graphics, sound, etc.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars was Super Mario 64, Sunshine and Galaxy ported to the Switch with HD graphics and limited modifications. Widescreen and new controls were added.
The 3D version was a limited edition thing and not terribly well received. They could have done a lot more, they also could have included SM Galaxy 2.
Nintendo did a similar thing for Zelda on the GCN with a couple N64 games on a disc when you preordered a newer Zelda game.
