I'd add "Cheap prepaid smartphones are actually good now".
$50 will get you a totally usable 6-ish-inch screen Android phone with an almost-up-to-date OS that can do all the internet things you need. You don't even have to activate them with the cell carrier (much like the slightly more expensive $90 device I'm typing this comment on).
