Or, perhaps saved as a time stamp of the state of political discourse in the us. Those who do not know history are unaware when they repeat it. And the communication alternatives available to the central government are far, far more pervasive than the radio-and-newspapers of the last century.

Those who say there’s nothing to worry about look suspiciously like those profiting from it (or encouraging it). A whole lot of stuff is being done differently than before and there will be mid to long term damage from it. Damage to the r&d mechanism, for example, might be generational. And for better or worse world trade is being rearranged.
