I have been working for a long time on a Mac OS dictation app that supports multiple backends like whisper, vosk, Mac native Apple speech API, as well as cloud providers like Mistral or Gemini. The goal of Whisper Mac is to be a drop-in replacement for your keyboard whenever possible.
