I always like to comment on these posts that the IRS offers a program called "IRS FreeFile Fillable Forms" that allows any US tax person to file their individual federal tax returns electronically, for free regardless of income or complexity of the return.

I used to use these but two years ago or so they started demanding a phone number (or similar) and that's when I stopped using it.
