I've recently watched a video [1] that mentions how pre-rendered graphics dominated the 90s-early 2000s and were replaced by real-time rendering. You'll probably like it too!
Great recommendation. I screenshotted the list of games at the end. I was aware of commandos but never played it, and I don't think I appreciated how many distinctly rich and interesting environments you get to play in.
