The excessive emojis were enough for me to move on. I haven't touched an OpenAI product in over a year. I've maintained an ad-free household for over a decade. OpenAI will not ever be a part of my life any more than it is now. Just like Facebook.
The thing is I don't really mind if the ad is super relevant and well integrated. My issue is when they get greedy and it becomes the the majority of the page. I sincerely think the reason people like ChatGPT > Google, even for trivial queries is the cleaner interface. It's also a reason that Google won over Yahoo/Altavista.
The danger is we'll get to where we are with Smart TVs where they all kinda have seemed to have embraced an openly user-hostile ads-filled UI and there is nowhere to hide. In which case, yeah you either go with the least bad or hopefully the OSS models are comparable or I just pay a la carte to use the API.
