I love how every Emacs veteran's opinion seems to be "don't do it kids", as if using it were smoking.

I agree.

The worst thing about being an Emacs user is that it can fall a little behind e.g. VS Code in features. But the best thing about it, the most addicting thing, is that it really is your editor.
