I'm a lifelong KDE person but it's still clear to me that GNOME is crafted with care, and I find it pretty usable.

GNOME is crafted in exactly the same committee style as Windows and MacOS. It's crafted by the same people who brought you systemd, if that means anything to you.

If you're a lifelong KDE user you might not have used GNOME in a while and seen how it's gotten.
