X's new pure black dark mode hurts readability compared to the old dim theme

X recently switched dark mode from dim gray to pure black, and it’s noticeably harsher on the eyes, especially on desktop at night. The previous dim theme was more comfortable for long reading sessions. Anyone else missing the old dim mode or found a good workaround?

I added a "Dark mode theme" option to Control Panel for Twitter to bring it back:
