GPT-2 was in 2019. That was really the start of the LLM bandwagon. You could argue it was ChatGPT that brought it to the masses, but that was still only in 2022. 3 years is not a long time.

Yes I argue exactly that. Notice how I've avoided saying LLM or GPT and said "AI hype". Everyone here on HN has had heard of GPT back then, yet we've been through like what, 3, 4, 5? different hypes since 2018, AI hype is only being the latest.

Maybe to clarify my argument a little bit more, "AI" was already good and was being used for useful/productive purposes before it became the hype. It'd be better had it stay the same way instead of it being the latest money generation machine and sucking the air out of the room.
