Waymo Faces Setback as New York Withdraws Robotaxi Service Plan

Almost a decade ago GM Cruise made a big deal of rolling out in NY and had a garage there for a while, but they never got permission to test/operate their vehicles autonomously and eventually left.

Dozens of cities would happily roll out the red carpet for a robotaxi service but, like Cruise, Waymo doesn't want dozens of other cities they want New York.

Can you blame them? You have 10 million people give or take in about 50 miles.

A temporary win for the taxi lobby, though I expect this will be reversed one way or another in the next year or two.

Still a sad outcome for now. People will die because of this decision.
