Journalists is covering these stories could do better than to keep using the phrase "remote driving." Wayno figured out years ago that remote driving just won't work. You can't count on the data connection to the vehicle. Maybe in China where they deploy millimeter wave 5G, but not anywhere in the US.

It does feel likely that Elon was just as insistent about not needing Waymo's remote support architecture as he was about not needing Waymo's full sensor suite.

Elon's engineering prowess is as highly overrated as his stock.

His legal insight is questionable too. Reports from Austin show that remotely operated level 2 vehicles are an accident waiting to happen. And an army of liability lawyers are just waiting to feed off this.
